It started in 1957, when a young couple purchased a house overlooking beautiful Lake Chetola. Seeing an opportunity to share the scenic views with guests all over the country, the Brooks decided to build a motel three years later.
And share they did. Travelers and nearby residents both came to Cliffdwellers Inn to take in the views, enjoy the affordable and clean accommodations, and explore the myriad of attractions Boone and Blowing Rock have to offer. So successful was the inn that the Brooks expanded with the construction of the Cliff House apartment building in 1966.
For 28 years the Brooks managed Cliffdwellers Inn, ultimately selling it in 1988.
Since then the inn has seen four different managers, each of whom added their own renovations and inspirations to the property. But now—again under new management—Cliff Dwellers inn is undergoing its most extensive ‘face-lift’ in its 51 year history.
Even more interesting is that some of the inn’s former guests are now overseeing the renovations, which guarantee that the new touches will remain loyal to the Brooks’ original hope of providing a clean, comfortable place for guests of all ages to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view.
